Unboxing The PinePhone From Pine64

A couple of months ago I covered a news story here on Front Page Linux about a New PinePhone with 3GB of RAM and USB Convergence Dock and at this point, Pine64 had successfully built the temptation too great for me to resist. I ordered the new 3GB RAM version of the Pinephone with the Convergence dock and it has finally arrived. I immediately ripped open the box, ok well carefully opened the box, to get at this device and I can’t wait to play with it.

Here is the unboxing video I made for the PinePhone and hopefully in the near future I’ll have a lot more PinePhone content to share!

Let me know in the comments if you found this video helpful and whether or not you are interested in getting the PinePhone. If you already have one, what has your experience been with it so far?

  1. I don’t think it looks too thick. It looks really nice. Speaking of courage jack, does anybody know the DAC that they use in the pinephone? I’d like to see the video that puts the convergence through its paces.

The phone is based on their open source Pine A64 single board computer of theirs. Though they did have to use closed source hardware to turn it into a cell phone.

  3. True, afaik, there is no such open source hardware. It would be a grail phone for me with a completely Libre hardware stack as opposed to just a desirable phone.

  4. I want one so badly that I will just order one. When my wife asks why I spent my money I will refer her to Michael’s video.

I noticed on their new store site, just for a while it had the quantity available. There was three times the number of ones with 3GB of RAM (nearly 3000) than the ones with 2GB of RAM (~8XX). I wonder if that is a sign of things to come with 4GB+ versions.
